About Sarah

IMG_6342-sbh-bio-pic-edited-cropped.jpg

I've had the good fortune to work with extraordinary teachers and editors. At Sarah Lawrence College, I studied with Joe Papaleo and Myra Goldberg. At the Whidbey Island MFA program, I learned from Kathleen Alcalá, Bruce Holland Rogers, and David Wagoner.

I have three ebooks available to read now, and more coming soon. Earlier work has appeared in Necessary Fiction and WoodenBoat Magazine.

I've spent much of my life racing wooden sailboats and teaching sailing at the Center for Wooden Boats. Originally from Upstate New York, I now live in Seattle with my family. This photo was taken in my tree garden, September of 2025.
